The Panjab has a rich culture and vibrant heritage. The land of five rivers is now shared by Pakistan and India. In Persian Panj means five, and -ab means waters. The five rivers of Punjab are the Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi, Sutlej, and Beas. The main religions of the Punjab region are Islam, Sikhism and Hinduism, as well as Buddhists and Jains. In 1947 the Panjab was partitioned.
